What are Shortfill E-Liquids?
Due to TPD (tobacco products directive), new regulations have meant manufacturers can now no longer sell e-liquid that contains nicotine in bottles larger than 10ml. (It’s also the reason why vape tanks can now only be 2ml). To get around this and continue giving vapers the best value for money, shortfills were invented.
Shortfills are larger bottles of e-liquid and contain zero nicotine, the bottle is 80% 'short-filled' with flavoured e-liquid giving you space to add your nicotine. Starting out in a 60ml bottle with 50ml of e-liquid, Shortfills are now available in a range of sizes from 25ml through to 200ml bottles.Shortfills are generally mixed in a 70VG/30PG ratio, and are therefore recommended for sub-ohm vapers. Within our range of shortfill e-liquids we stock flavours to suit every palate.
How do you mix a Shortfill E-Liquid?
Start by removing the cap and popping the pipette off the bottle. Then, squeeze your desired amount of a nicotine shot into your bottle of shortfill liquid.
Replace the nozzle and lid, and shake thoroughly to get the nicotine evenly mixed and get the best flavour from your juice.
Wait a few minutes for the liquid to settle and, once there are no bubbles, you can fill your tank and start vaping.
It’s a good idea to give the bottle a gentle shake now and again to make sure nothing has settled or separated.
How do you increase the nicotine strength of a Shortfill?
Adding an 18mg bottle of freebase nicotine to a 50ml capacity bottle of e-liquid will mix to a 3mg/0.3%. To mix to a 6mg, you’ll need double the amount of nicotine. Some shortfill bottles have enough space for two nic shots, otherwise you'll need to decant some liquid first to allow for the extra bottle of nicotine, then mix. By the same principle, if you want a very light nicotine level, just put in half the nic shot to your liquid.
What are the types of Nic Shots?
When it comes to nicotine shots, you have a couple of options. The first is freebase nicotine, the most common form of nicotine found in e-liquid, it’s more affordable and has more of a throat hit when used in higher doses. The other format you can use is nicotine salts, a lower pH form that can be used in higher doses and vaporises at lower temperatures. Depending on what kind of device you have and your nicotine level needs one may suit you more than the other. Those using pod kits and lower powered devices can benefit from nic salts to get a high dose. For Sub Ohm devices you’re better off with freebase nicotine at a lower level as high powered devices deliver nicotine in higher concentrations than plus ohm kits.
